1888 Mills teams with Cotton Incorporated on affordable essentials

1888 Mills is bringing consumers a full bath and bedding assortment in partnership with Cotton Incorporated. Made from 100% cotton and poised to retail at opening price points, the collection is designed to compete directly with microfiber and synthetic options.

This new line was developed to address a growing concern in the home textiles market: the overwhelming prevalence of synthetic materials in value-priced bedding and bath products, according to chief merchandising officer Lexi Schladenhauffen.

With increased awareness of microplastics entering waterways during wash cycles and research showing that these particles are also being potentially absorbed into the human body, 1888 Mills and Cotton Incorporated saw an opportunity to provide a natural alternative that doesn’t compromise on price, she noted.

“Our goal was to create a collection that’s truly affordable and accessible, without forcing consumers to settle for synthetic fibers,” Schladenhauffen explained. “This work is supported by Cotton Incorporated’s research on the benefits of pure cotton, such as its natural softness, breathability, and durability. We also recognize the growing awareness of microplastics in our environment and believe that towels and sheets, the fabrics we live closest to, should be as clean, natural, and comfortable as possible.”

Value-engineered to meet aggressive opening price points, the collection fills the “good” pricing bracket within the “good/better/best” strategy without sacrificing quality. The assortment features:

  • Bath: Lower GSM towels, specially engineered for softness and long-lasting loft, wash after wash.
  • Bedding: Soft woven 100% cotton sheets, quilts, and comforters in varying constructions – all crafted from natural cotton fibers.
  • Design: A mix of solids, yarn-dyes, and prints in muted, sophisticated yet approachable tones.

By offering affordable, all-natural cotton products, 1888 Mills is aiming to shift consumer preference away from synthetics and toward a more sustainable, healthier choice, making pure cotton accessible to price-sensitive shoppers.

“1888 Mills has been a strong advocate for cotton and continues to show how natural fiber innovation can meet real market needs,” said Marcy Gang, executive account manager, Cotton Incorporated. “This collection demonstrates that cotton can be a cost-efficient choice, offering consumers the natural comfort they want at price points that compete with low-cost synthetics.”

1888 Mills’ New York City showroom is located in Suite 610 at 230 Fifth Ave.
