The Australian Cotton Shippers Association (ACSA) and Cotton Australia (CA) have received a $ 692,456 grant from the Government to develop and implement strategies for market diversification. Grants will play an important role in coordinating future plans for the country’s cotton industry, said the Minister of Agriculture and David Littleproud in northern Australia.
“This grant will establish a long-term strategy for market diversification across the cotton industry,” Little Proud said in a statement.
“This will allow us to consider as many options as possible to make Australian cotton the fiber of choice for textile manufacturers. We will also look at markets with great growth potential, such as Bangladesh, Pakistan and Vietnam. We will also look at consumer education through digital platforms, “he said.
Adam Kay, CEO of Cotton Australia, said market diversification is important over the next two years. “We expect a good harvest in 2021 and a huge harvest in 2022. This year we have 635,000 tonnes and next year we have 1 million tonnes,” says Kay.
“Working closely with our customers, retailers and brands can increase the demand for sustainable, high-quality cotton we produce and avoid stockpiling our products,” he added.
