Brazil has achieved the historic feat of becoming the world’s largest producer and exporter of cotton in the 2023/2024 harvest. The exceptional harvest of more than 3.7 million tonnes was announced at the 75th meeting of the Industry Chamber of the Cotton Production Chain in Comandatuba, reports T oda Palavra, a partner of TV BRICS.
According to Miguel Faus, president of the National Association of Cotton Exporters (Anea), Brazil’s transformation from a major importer to a world leader was the result of investments in research and development.
The recovery of Brazilian exports is driven by demand from countries such as Pakistan and Bangladesh, with China, Vietnam, Turkey and others as major markets.
In addition, Brazil has expanded its poultry market by obtaining a sanitary authorisation to export poultry feathers from a region in China, indicating confidence in the country’s sanitary controls.
