Free fibre insulation is warmer after washing

Italian insulation specialist Thermore has developed a free fibre insulation solution that is 10% warmer after washing. Jessica Owen reports.

Thermore, a developer and producer of thermal insulation for the apparel industry, has launched a free fibre solution called Ecodown Fibers Genius that the company has coined ‘the Swiss army knife of free fibre products’.

Made from 100% recycled PET, the company’s researchers define the solution as a hybrid between free fibres and rolled insulation, bridging the gap between the two products.

The product has a fill power of more than 640, and it incorporates a specially engineered structure that creates a more stable and even layer of insulation that enables it to become 10% warmer after washing, according to the company.

“As always, our new developments are the result of innovative ideas from our fantastic customers,” says a spokesperson for Thermore.

“Who could imagine that it was possible to make a thermal insulation that actually becomes warmer after being washed? Ecodown Fibers Genius ages like a fine wine and it is up to 10% warmer after two washing cycles.”

Thanks to its unique construction, Ecodown Fibers Genius allows for ‘endless’ manufacturing and design possibilities, including alternate quilting and special patterns. It can also be blown in baffles, panels, and even hand stuffed.

“Our R&D department never stops working on innovations and novelties,” the spokesperson explains. “For example, we have been one of the few companies worldwide that continued developing during the tough times of the Covid-19 pandemic, allowing our customers to keep accessing new technologies.”

“Our R&D team is already hard at work on future technologies, pushing the boundaries of thermal insulation and anticipating the needs of our customers. Stay tuned as there are some incredible new breakthroughs already in the pipeline.”
