Lawsuit targets EPA dicamba approval for soybeans and cotton

Environmental and conservation groups are again asking a federal court to block the use of over-the-top dicamba in cotton and soybeans.

In a petition challenging three recent label approvals, the National Family Farm Coalition, Center for Food Safety and others claim the U.S. EPA didn’t follow the Federal Insecticide, Fungicide and Rodenticide Act requirements, and allege violations to the Endangered Species Act.

The petition was filed in the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals, and it’s the fourth legal challenge to dicamba restrictions.

The groups argue the agency continues to ignore legal requirements and prior court decisions when approving the herbicide, and they want the court to vacate the registration.

In early February, the U.S. EPA finalized labels for Stryax from Bayer, Engenia from BASF and Tavium from Syngenta, to be used with stricter guidance from the agency compared to previous seasons.
