Mato Grosso reaps record production of cotton and prepares for expansion

Record production this year was, in part, a result of the perception that there would be an increase in international demand. The biggest gain, however, was in productivity, since there was no significant increase in planted area (went from 612,000 hectares to 628,000 hectares).

The weather contributed. Among the producers, it is an unanimous assessment that the rains came and departed on time. In a production scenario in which 88 percent of cotton are grown as a second crop of soybeans, this accuracy is crucial.
