Cotton may be coming back to Mississippi County in another form.
Mississippi County Economic Development Corporation Director Cliff Chitwood said the county is working to attract a yarn production facility, and eventually a textile mill, to the northeast Arkansas county.
The effort is part of a goal by Chitwood and Mississippi County officials to bring the cotton industry back to the area.
Mississippi County was once home to several such industries, but most have left or closed.
Chitwood said a new mill would process local cotton into yarn in Mississippi County before shipping it to Bangladesh, where it would be made into luxury bath towels. He said the company being pursued could have a workforce of about 500 people.
