Partnerships to enable sustainable textiles in Singapore

RGE, a producer of viscose, has formalised two partnerships in its native Singapore to advance sustainable fashion in the city state.

The first partnership is a three year strategic deal with Singapore’s Textile and Fashion Federation (TaFF), to advocate eco-friendly industry practices throughout the city and the wider region.

The partnership will see RGE and TaFF work together to offer programme implementation, research and education to the country’s textile market.

Wilson Teo, president, TaFF, says: “Our strategic partnership with RGE marks a step forward for TaFF to expand our sustainability ecosystem throughout the fashion value chain, from materials, manufacturing, brands and technology to solutions.”

The two bodies have already set up a Steering Committee, with members spanning the different stages of the textile supply chain.

Tey Wei Lin, president, RGE and vice chairperson of the Steering Committee, says: “We are committed to investing US$200m into next-generation textile fibre innovation and technology.”

He adds: “We seek to work with innovators, industry partners, research institutions and academia to scale up solutions that will deliver cleaner and more circular cellulosic textile fibre to the masses at affordable prices.”

The partnership was officially launched on 30 November 2021 with delegates from RGE, TaFF and Singapore government in attendance.
