Sigmatex boosts US carbon fibre textile capacity by 50 per cent

Sigmatex, a carbon fibre textiles producer based in the UK, has finished a major investment phase in its North American facility in Orangeburg, South Carolina. This expansion will increase the company’s weaving capacity by up to 50 per cent through the addition of a new production cell, addressing the rising demand for Sigmatex products in space, aerospace and defense sectors.

Sigmatex CEO Paul McMullan notes, “Our focus on quality, service, and technical capability has been well received in the US market. This investment will be a key driver for our growth in the region over the next five years.”

The 75,000-square-foot Orangeburg facility, established in 2015, is Sigmatex’s newest and most advanced plant, designed for cost-effective manufacturing and scalability. It features proprietary Flat Tow technology and holds AS9100D and DNV accreditations, serving as the main supply site for North America.

McMullan adds, “We are committed to investing in innovative technologies and will continue to make incremental investments in the coming years. This will help us stay ahead of demand while focusing on quality, digitalisation, and data-driven improvements. The next five years are set to be very promising for our US operations.”
