TESTEX successfully hosted the first Bandung ZDHC Seminar titled “Sustainable Solution: Navigating the ZDHC Roadmap to Zero,” as part of the Global ZDHC Roadshow 2024. This event marks a significant milestone towards a sustainable textile industry in Indonesia. Co-organisers SGS, Primatek, and Panta Rei also contributed to the event’s success.
Indonesia, a global leader in apparel and textile production, faces sustainability challenges, especially in wastewater management and hazardous chemical use. The Zero Discharge of Hazardous Chemicals (ZDHC) programme aims to eliminate hazardous chemicals from the textile and footwear value chain globally, promoting sustainable chemistry and best practices.
The seminar began with a speech from Mr Suhendro Limantoro of API, who highlighted the importance of committing to ZDHC standards to improve the industry’s environmental footprint and global competitiveness.
Key topics discussed during the seminar included the ZDHC roadmap and its importance in chemical and wastewater management in both theory and practice. TESTEX, a ZDHC solution provider, highlighted their comprehensive approach to chemical management and showcased their solutions in their auditing and certification processes, including OEKO-TEX STeP.
Primatek, in collaboration with Panta Rei, introduced their innovative solutions in wastewater management, enabling plants to achieve ZDHC standards and recycle over 80% of the water in their facilities.
Mr Suhendro Limantoro from PT Sinar Para Taruna presented a case study on implementing a ZDHC solution, emphasising continuous improvement in factory processes to save energy and reduce costs. SGS discussed their platform’s role in chemical management and integration with ZDHC requirements.
Attendees also participated in the ‘ZDHC Gateway Functionality Workshop,’ gaining hands-on experience and understanding the benefits of joining ZDHC. Manufacturers gain access to centralised data on verified chemicals, ensuring transparency and consistency with ZDHC standards.
In a collaborative effort, brands, chemical formulators, manufacturers, and solution providers are shaping the future of the industry, ensuring the consistency of sustainable practices for future generations.
